Andy Stanford-Clark

January 25, 2011

Andy Stanford-Clark is an inventor who works for IBM, over his years of research he has taken a keen interest in energy monitoring, measuring and displaying the amount of energy used in a space in real time. He developed a twittering house which twitters energy readings and when certain objects in the house are used. For example, he used a magnetic sensor on his window and when it opens it sends a notification to his main computer which notifies him that the window has been opened.

He also used a light which can show every colour in the rainbow, it changes green when there isn’t much energy used, but turns red when a lot of energy is used.

Implementing all these technologies into his house, it almost makes the house a living thing. Allowing andy to see exactly what the house is currently doing.

Andy used MQTT and RSMB (Really small message broker) to communicate all the devices in his house as one. This is the same technology as we were taught in our IBM sessions.
